Importing a Japanese used car? Start here.
Japan exports over 1.4 million used cars to more than 100 countries every year. From auction-graded Toyotas in Kenya to JDM Skylines in the UK, Japanese used vehicles dominate the global secondhand market — thanks to strict maintenance culture, low-mileage examples, and Japan's mandatory shaken inspection that rotates cars out of the domestic fleet at predictable ages.
Every importing country has different rules: age limits (3 years in Pakistan, 8 years in Kenya, no limit in the UK), duty rates (5% in UAE, 60-90% in Kenya, 200%+ in some Pakistani categories), required documents, drive-side restrictions, pre-shipment inspections, and entry ports. This guide covers all 66 destination countries — verified May 2026.
Before you commit to a purchase, two steps protect you: decode the chassis code to confirm the model and year, then verify the original auction sheet to check the real grade, mileage, and accident history. Both are essential for safe Japanese imports.

No limit🛡️ Why verify the auction sheet before buying?
Most Japanese cars sold for export pass through one of 140+ Japanese auction houses (USS, TAA, JU, HAA, IAA and others). Each car is graded by an independent inspector — but by the time it reaches your dealer's listing photos, that grade can be hidden, the mileage altered, or accident records stripped. Auction sheets are the only tamper-proof source.
An auction sheet translation reveals what the inspector actually wrote in Japanese: grade (4, 4.5, B, R, RA), mileage stamp authenticity, repair marks (W1 = small dent, A1 = small scratch, X1 = damaged), modifications, and any major accident or flood damage. Without this, you are buying blind.
Use our import calculator to estimate landed cost in your country, chassis decoder to confirm the model and year, and how to read auction sheets guide if you're new to Japanese imports. Always verify before you wire money — never after shipping.
