Check if an odometer reading is genuine using real Japan usage data. Detects rollbacks and flags suspicious readings.
Japan real average is 6,972 km/year (Statista 2024 survey). The export industry uses 10,000 km/year as the standard benchmark. A 10-year-old Japanese car should typically have 70,000–100,000 km.
Under 80,000 km total is the sweet spot — Grade 4.5 at auction. Under 50,000 km is excellent (Grade 5). Under 100,000 km is well within normal range. Japanese buyers avoid over 100,000 km, which means good value for import buyers.
Compare current mileage to the mileage on the original auction sheet. If current is lower than auction mileage — definite rollback. Also check the auction sheet mileage trust symbol: ✓ means verified by the inspector, ? means uncertain.
Under 2,000–3,000 km/year on a car older than 3 years is unusual even for Japan. It could be genuine (second car, rarely driven, stored) or a sign of tampering. Check service records, interior wear, and pedal condition — these should match the stated mileage.
The auction sheet shows the official mileage certified by a licensed Japanese inspector — with a mileage trust symbol (✓ verified, ? uncertain). Verify before you buy.
