Common questions

Which countries does this cover?
Vehicles registered in the United States and Canada. Records come from state title agencies, insurers, salvage yards and dealer listings. A car that has never been registered in North America will not be in these databases — for Japanese vehicles, use our auction sheet service instead.
What if you find nothing on my car?
You get your money back, in full. Most vehicles have something on record, but if yours genuinely has no history you should not pay for an empty report.
Are the photos really of my car?
Yes. They come from actual sale listings and auction records for that exact VIN — the same pictures the seller or auction house published at the time. Not a stock image of the model.
Where does the data come from?
Title, brand and odometer records come from NMVTIS, the US federal title database that states, insurers and salvage yards are required by law to report to. Photos and sale prices come from dealer listings and salvage auctions.
Where do I find the VIN?
On the dashboard where it meets the windscreen, on the driver’s door frame, or on the registration document and insurance paperwork. It is 17 characters and never contains the letters I, O or Q.
